Coral Grief – Latitude
Coral Grief delivers ‘Latitude’ as the second single from their debut album, ‘Air Between Us,’ which arrives July 18th via Suicide Squeeze Records. The Seattle trio has mastered making nostalgia feel urgent rather than maudlin, crafting songs that examine how places change while we’re busy changing ourselves.
‘Latitude’ explores the slippery concept of home as a physical location and emotional anchor. Lena Farr Morrissey’s lyrics weave together personal memories with universal feelings of displacement, questioning whether returning home is sentimental indulgence or a necessary ritual. Her grandmother’s phrase, ‘I go behind the door to change my mind,’ provides the song’s emotional core, suggesting that sometimes the most profound changes happen in private moments.
Sam Fason’s guitar work provides textural layers like weather patterns, shifting between gentle swells and more assertive passages that mirror the song’s emotional terrain. Cam Hancock’s drumming serves as both anchor and propulsion, understanding when to push forward and when to create space for contemplation.
